Political Showdown Over Emergency; Sonia Gandhi Hits Out At The Speaker | Lok Sabha | News18
Well, apart from needs, the showdown over emergency also continues to snowball even further. Now Sonia Gandhi has it out at the BJP LED any a government. She said and I'm going to quote her here that its wrong of the speaker to raise the emergency issue inside Sansad. She in fact further said that people of India gave resounding verdict elections post the emergency. So that the big breaking news now coming in. With regards to the word coming in from Sonia Gandhi, we have got a senior editor, Pallavi Ghosh joining us on the broadcast as well. Pallavi, a very good morning to you. Sonia Gandhi is very clearly saying that you know its a past, it should not be discussed even further specifically coming from the speaker right now. Its time to reach a consensus with regards to the discussion inside the House. That's right. And in fact if you remember the KC Venugopal had written a letter to the Speaker, Rahul Gandhi himself had objected to it. When emergency something like which is 50 years old, what is the need for the speaker to raise it at this point of time? Sonia Gandhi in that article which she writes in the National Newspaper very clearly makes 2 interesting points. One of course is the fact that the Speaker had no reason to raise emergency as an issue when they are more pressing matters which needs to be taken up like need like Manipur. But more importantly, she in a sense justifies and says its time now to move on because to quote her, she said that first general elections held after Emergency gave a resounding success to the Congress party. So the peoples mandate is evidence enough that people have forgotten Emergency and therefore this should not be raked repeatedly by the BJP against the Congress. So very quickly actually, what is she trying to say? She's saying that the justification for forgetting or Emergency comes in from the people themselves. They are the biggest voices, they are the voice of the country and therefore 1 must understand why emergency is an issue which is long forgotten by the voters because they voted for the Congress party with a massive majority after the election election. When do the elections were held and we saw some nasty protest broken out inside the parliament? Also Pallavi Last time around the adjournsment also happened over the same issue. What can be expected when the parliament finally resumes Is the India block up in anti against the central government? They are going to continue their protest inside the House. Ohio. Yes absolutely. On Monday is when the motion of thanks is listed for Rajya Sabha and they've kind of made-up their mind actually that they are going to raise the issue of need. They'll insist that under Rule 267, which means discussion minus voting, that discussion must take place on need first. Motion of tanks can be taken up later. That, of course, is not going to be agreeable to the government in Lok Sabha. Again, they are going to do a repeat of what happened on Friday, but the motion of tanks could not be taken up. So the point that they're going to make is priority areas first. According to Opposition, the priority is need plus Manipur Motion of thanks can always be taken up after this is taken up. Definitely. Pallavi, thank you so much for putting all that into perspective for our viewers. We will keep coming back to you for more updates on that story right now.
