Titans offensive line vs Packers defensive line
Every football game always starts up front in the trenches. That will be extremely evident in this specific game as the new-look Titans offensive line will have to fend off a talented and deep Packers defensive front. All four starters on that front four had at least 5.5 sacks last season. If the Titans want to pull off the upset against the Packers, keeping quarterback Will Levis upright will have to be priority number one.
Will Levis vs Edgerrin Cooper
If they are able to keep Levis up, there is the potential for an advantageous matchup for head coach Brian Callahan to rely on at this point in the season. The Packers are expected to start incoming rookie Edgerrin Cooper at the mike linebacker position this season, and that should be something to attack in week three.
DeAndre Hopkins vs Jaire Alexander
This is the third week in a row to start the season DeAndre Hopkins will line up across one of the sport's premier cornerbacks. When the Titans defeated the Packers in 2022, Treylon Burks had a lot of success against Alexander, so this will be a key matchup to watch in this football game as Hopkins tries to find his groove heading into an easier stretch of opposing cornerbacks. It will be important to take advantage of opportunities, as the Packers gave up the fifth least passing attempts in the league last year.
T'Vondre Sweat vs Elgton Jenkins
While it is well known that the Packers don't place a primary focus on acquiring receiving talent, they were able to spread out the targets last year with Jordan Love throwing the ball. As the Packers built up an impressive running back room, it could prove important to limit the run game and make their receivers consistently beat one of the better cornerback rooms in the league. All of that starts up front with rookie T'Vondre Sweat pushing the pocket back against premier center Elgton Jenkins.
Conclusion
The Titans will come into their matchup against the Packers as significant underdogs. Tennessee has enough pieces to shock the league and come out of this game with a win, but that will all be contingent on the play of the trenches. There are a lot of question marks up front on both sides of the ball for the Titans, and this test will expose their matchups. It will be up to them to respond in a winning fashion.
