Dave Grohl questions Taylor Swift's live shows
So there are a few common sense assumptions in life, like looking both ways before you cross the road. Another that many have learned this year you don't anger Taylor Swift fans. Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl, however, maybe missed the memo. Grohl seem to take a shot at Swift this week, hinting that she and her band are not playing live during concerts. Have a listen. I'm telling you, baby, you don't want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift. So we like to call our tour the Error's tour. We've had more than a few errors and more than a few errors as well. Just took up. We actually play live. Oh, and people are still talking about it. Joining us now to talk about girls comments is a face that we are very familiar with here and to our viewers as well. Now, SiriusXM host Tara Sloan. Good to see you. Great to see you. Wow. OK, where to begin? Let's start with just Dave Grohl himself. He's he's known as, as you've met him, I'm sure more than once. He's known to have a good reputation and have this kind of camaraderie without fellow musicians. Yes. Yeah, he's known as like the rock'n'roll nice guy. Anybody who's met him, says Dave Grohl. Nicest guy in the world. So it's really unlike him to be rock'n'roll curmudgeon as opposed to rock'n'roll nice guy. So I'm not exactly sure where this came from. Maybe he was just having a particularly crusty evening. But yeah, it was it was really out of character for him. Yeah. But a crusty evening can now turn into a crusty career for some. As they might analyze this. I want to go back to what Taylor Swift said. She sort of had a subtle response when she was at Wembley. She said to on stage, every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band who's going to be playing live for you for 3 1/2 hours tonight. They deserve this so much. And then kind of silence after that. And then fans just said what, like, what is Dave Grohl thinking? There are some theories as to why he decided to change his tune. Because we've heard him sing her praises in the past, right? Sing her praises with what she's like as a musician, this person, this kind of thing. So it did kind of come out of left field. What are you hearing in the music entertainment industry? So what I've read is that his daughter Violet actually came out in January and criticized Taylor Swift for her jet, her private jet usage. And of course, the Swifties came swiftly after her. You know, you do not want to get, as Dave Grohl said, on the wrong side of the Swifties. So maybe this has soured him on Taylor Swift and all those who love her. But I can't really think of any other reason other than, you know, there's sort of an age-old rivalry between rock bands and pop stars and this accusation that maybe pop shows aren't, as, you know, kind of nuts and bolts as a rock show might be. And certainly, I'm sure Taylor Swift, like many pop stars, has a lot of backing tracks behind her. But, I mean, the woman plays for 3 1/2 hours of night a night. She sings, She dances. There's no doubt that there is a ton of live performance happening. So he would know that, too. Yeah. She's putting on a show. Yeah. Show. When you talk about these backing tracks, for those of our viewers who might not be familiar, what is the difference there with the backing tracks and then the live content? How does that work when it comes to a big stadium like this? Well, you know, when you record a a song, there are 1,000,000 different parts to it. And sometimes it's hard to recreate it live with simply just the musicians, especially when it comes to pop music that has a lot of different layers. So a lot of times they'll be beats behind them. They'll just be layers of maybe backing vocals. Who knows? I don't know how big her band is, but it's very, very common to just enhance the sound with a little bit extra. But it's it's doesn't mean it's Milli Vanilli, Right. OK, so you obviously come from this with with your musical career as well. When you hear a musician criticizing another musician, what does that do to the whole industry? Does it, does it sour it or how does it feel? Yeah, I I found it really disappointing. I think that, you know, my experience with musicians is that we are genuinely supportive of one another, and they do entirely different things. And I think I'm sure Taylor has a lot of love for the Foo Fighters and what they do. And Dave Grohl has been really complimentary of Taylor Swift in the past. So I think we're all a better community when we lift each other up. And yeah, it was just kind of a sour moment. What do you think is the next step? Do you think Dave Grohl just goes, OK, let's wait for this to go away? Will it go away or do you see maybe a collaboration down the way where they just go, listen, let's let's bury this. Let's you know what? What? What would be the right PR move you think? I'm not sure if he's so concerned with the PR move, but, you know, I can imagine that this might be getting under his skin just a little bit and maybe he wants to clarify what he really meant by that. So, yeah, I'm not sure if it's to save face. I just. He probably it. It's probably not sitting so great with him right now. Yeah. OK. Well, let's see where this conversation goes. This is not the end, I'm sure. Tara Sloan, appreciate you stopping in. Thank you so much and good to see you. Great to see you.
