Celtic are 'shocked and saddened' by the death of 38-year-old former player Landry N'Guemo, the club have said.

The former Cameroon international, who spent the 2009-10 season on loan at Celtic Park from Nancy, died in a road accident in his native country.

A statement read: 'Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry N'Guemo's passing at the young age of 38.

'The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Landry's family and friends at this sad time.'

N'Guemo returned to Nancy to coach the Under-16s team following the end of his playing career.

N'Guemo, who played for Celtic on loan in the 2009-10 season before going onto feature in the likes of France and Turkey, was involved in a car crash earlier this week

In total, he played more than 40 times for Celtic during his loan spell from Nancy, featuring under both Tony Mowbray and Neil Lennon. He had seemed set to sign on a permanent deal following the loan, but an agreement could not be reached and he ended up back with Nancy, where he made a total of 127 appearances.

He then moved to France, first playing for Bordeux, then Saint-Etienne, before moving to Turkey with Akhisar Belediyespor and then Kayserispor.

He finished his career in Norway with Kongsvinger, before retiring in 2019.

At international level, he played 42 times for Cameroon, scoring three times.

Cameroon authorities revealed that the former midfielder had died in an accident earlier this week.
