Farage defends canvassers' shocking racist and homophobic remarks
Ordinary folk don't do Westminster speak. Ordinary folk speak in all sorts of terms. You get the odd exception like Andrew Parker who turns up and is gratuitously offensive and that's wrong and he's gone. I've inherited these people. Remember that. I came in very much at the last minute. There was a big CC call out for volunteers. People came forward. I tried at the last minute to get a professional vetting company to come in to sort it out. They, despite paying the money, they let us down. Look, a lot of what's being said is nonsense. A lot of it is just the way people talk, all right? Where I find people who are genuinely offensive, I deal with it. These days almost anything can be written off as racist and homophobic. When I see it and I see malice, I comment on it. When it's everyday speak, then I accept that not everybody has been to Oxford University.
