NHL Rumor Roundup: June 28, 2024
I'm Lyle Richardson of The Hockey News. In my latest NHL Rumor Roundup column, I'm looking at several notable NHL players who could become trade candidates heading into the 2024 NHL Draft. One of them is Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad. Now, it may seem unusual that Ekblad has come up as a trade candidate so soon after the Panthers won their first ever Stanley Cup. However, they need to clear up some additional salary cap space if they hope to re sign pending unrestricted free agents. Sam Reinhart and Brandon Montour Ekblad has one year remaining on his contract with a $7.5 million cap hit. He also has a full no movement clause that reverts to A12 team no trade list on July 1st. Another player worth watching is Calgary Flames center Nozzle Cadre. Now the Flames have been busy shipping out veteran players since January, with the latest being Jacob Markstrom being sent to the New Jersey Devils and Andrew Mangia Pane. Shipped to the Washington Capitals and that could have cadre perhaps considering his future with the Flames in the short and over the long term.
