Bin collections are set to change for hundreds of people in Derby.
Derby City Council is changing the wheelie bin set-up in eight streets in Mackworth and New Zealand, where the council said it is prone to fly-tipping and contamination of waste.
At a meeting on Thursday, it was agreed to change the weekly black bin collections in the area to fortnightly and to issue blue recycling bins to households to be used on alternate weeks.
The council hopes the new timetable will improve the environment, cut down costs and stop people leaving bins on their streets.
Black bins are used for general waste while blue bins are used to recycle items such as plastic bottles, drink cans and cardboard, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
In May 2013, Derby City Council removed blue bins from a number of properties in Mackworth and other areas due to high levels of contamination and bins being left out blocking pavements.
In July 2019 the council reintroduced the blue bins as an opt-in service.
Bringing back the scheme to all homes in the area will cost the council £2,359.50, the report states.
The affected streets are Brough Street, Campion Street, Cecil Street, Langley Street, Leake Street, Peach Street, Stepping Lane and Wild Street.
