David Fincher's English-Language Squid Game Remake Gets an Update

A positive update has arrived regarding David Fincher's English-language Squid Game adaptation. Reportedly, the acclaimed filmmaker has been working on the project for a couple of years, with a writer attached, and currently penning the remake.

The Playlist confirmed the rumors that Fincher was developing an American, English-language version of the hit South Korean series Squid Game for Netflix, revealing that the director has been working quietly on the remake for the past two years. Fincher has tapped British scribe Dennis Kelly to write his version of Squid Game. Kelly wrote the source material for Utopia, which Fincher almost helmed for HBO before the project fell apart due to budget issues. Per his exclusive deal with Netflix, Fincher was reportedly developing a Chinatown prequel series for the streamer in 2019. When Squid Game premiered and became a global phenomenon in 2021, the filmmaker decided to pivot, putting Chinatown on hiatus.
