SEOUL, June 28 (Yonhap) -- Singer and actor Ok Taec-yeon has been cast in a Japanese Netflix series "Soulmate," His agency, 51K, announced on the 28th.
The show is currently in production with a planned release for next year, the agency said.
"Soulmate" follows the story of Ryu (played by Isomura Hayato), who leaves everything behind and departs Japan. He eventually meets Yohan (played by Ok Taec-yeon) in a foreign church, where Yohan saves his life. This encounter leads to a decade-long journey of healing and comfort as they both deal with their pain. The series is set against the backdrops of Berlin, Seoul, and Tokyo.
Yohan, the character played by Ok, is a boxer who struggles with his own wounds until he meets the Japanese Ryu and gradually learns about love and the meaning of life.
Ok explained his choice for the role, saying, "The lingering emotions of Yohan's underlying sense of deficiency and pain drew me to this project. I am currently on a diet and training in boxing to authentically portray the character, and I am putting in a lot of effort to bring sincerity to the role."
