#TheMoment a rare white loon was caught on camera
The first time I ran into that white loon several years before, I didn't know what it was. There was a bit of a distance off and it's white and I'm thinking that's a loon of some kind, but it's not. There's something different about that one. So I started to take some pictures and then it took off and I didn't see it again. So I thought, OK, that's once in a million, off you go. So, you know, I get home and I'm like Googling white balloon, They came up as this leucistic balloon. I guess it's like one in 30,000 is their estimate for this coloring. Fast forward to this spring pull around the corner and I'm like, oh, there's a couple loons and then I see the white one and I'm like, holy crap, yeah, I get really excited. So I'm like click, click, click, click, click. And they started to do the usual thing that the rise up and flapping of the wings like all the typical common moon stuff. But now I've got this white one doing it right. I haven't seen it since. It's just surreal because this was like a lottery winner being struck by lightning twice in a week. It's crazy. No kidding. And he says he was so excited when he pulled up to the lake and saw this white loon that he scrambled out of the car and forgot to put it in park. Apparently, white loons are usually splotchy, so only parts of their plumage are white, so this fully white loon makes it extra special.
