When a call from Abdul Kalam had Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy's wife Sudha Murty "worried"
Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty, renowned author and philanthropist, recounted the incident when she unexpectedly received a call from former President APJ Abdul Kalam. Initially assuming it was meant for her husband, Narayana Murthy, she informed the operator that it was a “wrong number.”
Murty took to X to share a conversation recorded during a show. In it, she says, “One day, I got a call saying that Abdul Kalam wants to speak to you. I told them it was the wrong number because I didn’t have anything with Abdul Kalam. So I don’t know if there’s a mistake.”
“The operator, I told him, it may be for Narayana Murthy, so instead of Mr Murthy, you have connected to Mrs Murty,” she added.
“No, No. He [Abdul Kalam] specifically said for Mrs Murty,” Sudha Murty quoted the operator as saying.
However, the operator insisted that the call was specifically for Mrs Murty. Curious and puzzled, Sudha Murty wondered why Abdul Kalam had dialed her number. She got worried and thought about what she had done that Abdul Kalam dialled her.
As it turned out, Kalam had read one of her columns on the “IT divide” and wanted to commend her work. He praised the column as “fantastic” and revealed that he regularly followed her writings.
In another part of her column, Sudha Murty shared an amusing encounter with a shopkeeper. When she bought fruits, the price was Rs 100. Yet, when one of her students, an IT professional, purchased the same fruit, the shopkeeper charged RS 200, explaining that it was because of her profession.
