70,000 pieces of outdoor furniture recalled after customers have fingers amputated

A luxury outdoor furniture brand has recalled sun loungers after reports they can injure fingers so badly they need to be amputated.
Frontgate issued a recall for 70,000 Newport aluminum and teak chaise lounge chairs last week.
'When adjusting the backrest while seated, the adjustable backrest can unexpectedly descend with force, posing finger crushing and amputation hazards,' the recall notice posted to the Consumer Product Safety Commission read.
Frontgate received three reports of customers' fingers becoming trapped between the $1,400 chair frame and its backrest, two of which resulted in partial finger amputations and the other also required surgery.
The chairs affected by the recall were sold in Frontgate stores in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and Texas.

They were also available for purchase on the store's website and in its catalogues from February 2014 through December 2023.
The chairs were available in five different colors: architectural bronze, champagne silver, cobalt, matte black and matte white.
They were sold in sets of two in either 'weathered' or 'natural' finishes.
The sun loungers are 51 inches long and 31 inches wide, with a powder-coated aluminum or teak frame and an adjustable backrest made of mesh.
In January, more than half a million beds sold at Walmart and other popular retailers were recalled amid reports of injuries.
The problematic bed frames were sold at stores like Walmart and Wayfair between July 2018 and November 2023.
The recall was announced on January 18 after 128 claims that the bed had collapsed and 36 reported injuries.
