Morena Ramoreboli makes u-turn amid Sekhukhune United interest

In a dramatic twist, Ramoreboli, who won back-to-back league titles with Jwaneng Galaxy last season, appeared very close to sealing the deal with Sekhukhune United.

When speaking to SABC Sport last Thursday, as he was driving back from Botswana, the former Bafana Bafana caretaker coach appeared uncertain whether he would continue his project with Galaxy, amid strong interest from the PSL.

“This project needs someone who understands it and who can take it further. I am still here, and yes, my agent and the club are still negotiating. We will know very soon what is going to happen,” Ramoreboli told the public broadcaster at the time.

“Like I said, I respect Jwaneng Galaxy, [but] one day I will go back home and it will be the time which God makes.”

SABC Sport has now learnt an improved offer from the Botswana Premier League champions ultimately led to his decision to reconsider his options.

And after winning back-to-back league titles, the ambition to extend that to three in a row and continue with their dominance over Botswana football giants Township Rollers and Gaborone United also excited Ramoreboli.

The former Maluti FET College and Bloemfontein Celtic coach has also taken Galaxy to two CAFC Champions League group stages in the last three years.

Besides Sekhukhune United, Ramoreboli, who hails from Rosendal in the Free State, was also a strong candidate for Marumo Gallants, who look set to return to the DStv Premiership, should their bid for Moroka Swallows’ status be approved.

Babina Noko, meanwhile, will have to restart their search for a new coach, after reportedly also missing out on Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Fernando da Cruz, as they prepare for their return to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
