SINGAPORE – Unexploded World War II ordnance was removed from a construction site in Ang Mo Kio on June 28.
At about 5.45pm that day, the police were alerted to a war relic discovered at a construction site along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 towards Marymount Road.
It was discovered during excavation works.
The Straits Times understands that the relic was found at the construction site of the future Teck Ghee MRT station, near Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.
In response to queries from ST on June 29, the police said they worked with the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, and the item was found to be unexploded World War II ordnance.
It was assessed to be safe for handling and was moved away for disposal, said the police.
No danger was posed to the public, the police added.
In September 2023, a 100kg World War II bomb, found at a construction site in Upper Bukit Timah, was detonated twice by the SAF’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
The aerial bomb was successfully disposed of after the detonations.
