Miami Heat Intend to Reach Three-year, $166 Million Extension

There has been a lot of talk surrounding Jimmy Butler and the max contract extension he is believed to be seeking from the Miami Heat this offseason.
Butler's future in South Beach is up in the air as there have been suggestions that the Heat are reluctant to offer a blockbuster max extension to the 34-year-old, who has a worrying injury record.
And now, it has emerged that the Heat intend to hand a max contract extension to one of Butler's teammates.
Of course, the teammate in question is none other than three-time All-Star and 2024 NBA All-Defensive First Team player, Bam Adebayo.
According to Shams Charania on X, the Heat and Adebayo intend to reach a three-year, $166 million maximum contract extension. The team expect to lock in their cornerstone center through the 2028-29 season.
Alongside Butler, Adebayo has been one of the key reasons behind the Heat's successes in recent years. They have made two trips to the NBA Finals since the turn of the decade, albeit coming up short on both occasions, against the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and the Denver Nuggets in 2023.
While Butler is in the twilight of his career, Adebayo is still only 26 and should have a lot of basketball left in the tank.
There is zero doubt that Adebayo is one of the best defensive players in the league and one cannot overlook his improvement on the offensive end as well.
It is very clear that the Heat intend to build their roster around Adebayo and with the uncertainty over Butler's future, it will be interesting to see how they approach that this summer and beyond.
