Qatar Museums Announce Permanent Changes to Opening Hours

Qatar Museums (QM) has unveiled permanent changes to the operating hours of its major cultural institutions, aimed at enhancing public access, promoting evening programs, and ensuring the optimal care and maintenance of collections. These new hours, effective from July 1, 2024, will be implemented at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM), and Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.

Extended Hours and Weekly Closures

The new schedule will feature extended hours every Thursday, allowing visitors more opportunities to explore the diverse arts and cultural offerings of Qatar Museums, including permanent collections, temporary exhibitions, and public programs. Additionally, each museum will close one day per week for essential maintenance, staff training, and the installation of new exhibits. This ensures that the highest standards are maintained without disrupting the visitor experience.

Holiday Closures

QM's usual holiday closures will remain unchanged. All relevant institutions will be closed on two days each year: the first day of Eid Al Fitr and the first day of Eid Al Adha, allowing staff to celebrate these important holidays with their families. Following these days, the museums will remain open for the duration of the holiday period, as announced by the Amiri Diwan. If a regular closure day coincides with an Eid holiday, the museum will stay open to align with the public holiday period.
