Eamonn Holmes seen in wheelchair as he holds hands with Christine McGuinness at TRIC Awards

Eamonn Holmes put on a brave face as he made his first public appearance in a wheelchair and without Ruth Langsford.

The broadcaster, 64, headed to the annual TRIC Awards on Tuesday where he decided to skip the red carpet. It marked his first appearance at an award ceremony following his shock split from wife Ruth. Last month, they announced they had parted ways after 14 years of marriage.

Eamonn decided to head to the TRIC Awards, where he was seen in a wheelchair. He always attended the annual event with Ruth, but opted to go solo this year. The GB News star was pictured sat alone and was later joined by guests including Christine McGuinness and Angellica Bell.

Christine could be seen holding Eamonn's hand with an arm placed around his shoulder as they smiled at the camera. Eamonn donned a black suit, white shirt and blue tie. The broadcaster is nominated for Best TV presenter as he goes head-to-head with Susanna Reid, Nigel Farage, and Matt Chorley.

GB News Breakfast was named the Best News programme and Eamonn told the audience: “I had an operation a year and a half ago, and two things went wrong so I have two things in my back I don’t want. So I’ll happily accept this.”

Ahead of the TRIC Awards, sources close to Eamonn said they were unsure if he would be able to attend due to issues with his back. They said he was likely to try to go as he has fond memories of the awards from previous years, where he has won awards and chatted to friends in the TV industry. "He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," the source told The Mirror.

He also took to his Instagram to confirm his attendance at the event by posting a snap from inside the lavish venue. He quietly snuck into the venue where he sat waiting for his food to be served. "Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards," he wrote alongside the snap from his table.

Eamonn and Ruth's shocked fans when their marriage came to an end last month. At the time, a spokesperson for the former couple said: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing." Fans had noticed the former This Morning hosts had not been pictured together in months.

The pair were renowned for their bickering and rows, many of which took place in full glare of the ITV cameras during their time on the daytime show. They had always insisted their disagreements came from a place of affection. Eamonn is believed to have grown a close friendship with relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, 42, who has been helping Eamonn get back on his feet amidst the split. The pair have been on outings in the last 12 months as well as Katie being pictured at his home.

While Ruth has been enjoying a night out on the town as last Thursday she had a smile back on her face after a tough few weeks. She attended Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice's Together stage show and posted a video of the curtain call as well as a photo with her pal Anton. Eamonn and Ruth met in 1997 when they were introduced by mutual friends and they then dated for over a decade before Eamonn popped the question and they married in 2010.
