Former Botswana midfielder Diphetogo ‘Dipsy’ Selolwane has revealed why South African coach Morena Ramoreboli is successful in Botswana.
The highly-rated coach has won the Botswana Premier League back-to-back with Jwaneng Galaxy. Last season, he led Galaxy to the CAF Champions League group stages.
Former Ajax Cape Town midfielder Dipsy Selolwane says Ramoreboli is a father figure to his players.
“I know him. It’s more about his personality. How he gets into good mutual father figure relations with his players is something special,” he told FARPost.
“And what makes it tick is the fact that he is in charge of a team with a strong support system. A straightforward vision. And then they have clear ambitions.”
Selolwane said Ramoreboli has mastered the art of winning away from home. That was evident in the Champions League when Galaxy defeated Orlando Pirates on penalties at the Orlando Stadium.
“At a personal level, he is grounded and his personality suits well with the club. A person who has a rare ability to forge good relations with anyone, players included, makes a great coach.
Dipsy Selolwane full of praise for Ramoreboli
“That is why you see there is a good rapport. For me, that is what makes him different from the rest.
“And what makes it special is how he has become a hero, away from his homeland [South Africa]. He has mastered the art of conquering away from home,” said the Botswana legend.
Selolwane is spot on when it comes to Ramoreboli’s success. He is more celebrated in Botswana than in his country despite leading Bafana Bafana to the 2021 Cosafa Cup triumph. Ramoreboli was linked with a move to Sekhukhune United after the club sacked Lehlohonolo Seema last month. According to reports, the move fell through after disagreements with the mandate to remain in the top four next season.
