PNP gears up to secure Widodo visit, Feast of Black Nazarene
MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be enforcing strict security measures during the official visit of Indonesian President Jokowi Widodo to the country, which will coincide with the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Widodo will be in the Philippines from January 9 to 11.
The religious event starts on January 9.
Colonel Jean Fajardo, PNP spokesman, said that the Presidential Security Group (PSG) will be the lead security during Widodo’s visit.
Speaking in Filipino, Fajardo said there is a “security template” for visiting foreign dignitaries and that the PSG is the “lead unit for state visits.” She added, however, that the PNP will provide enough personnel to augment the PSG, particularly in “engagement areas.”
The Traslacion or the procession of the Black Nazarene image from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church is set for Tuesday where two million Catholics are expected to join.
The PNP said that some 15,000 policemen will be deployed.
