User-friendly guide for city plan review
A GRASSROOTS organisation has introduced a user-friendly template to facilitate public feedback for the draft Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (KLLP2040).
Save Kuala Lumpur (SKL), a residents-based coalition advocating for effective city planning, said the template could be used by city stakeholders to provide input and suggestions on the draft local plan, which is currently at the publicity stage.
SKL chairman Datuk M. Ali said the template could be customised according to specific concerns, allowing for a more targeted submission process.
“The draft plan is a more than 1,000-page comprehensive document which may not be easy for the layperson to understand.
“The members of the coalition have been involved in the draft plan process since 2008, so we have some knowledge on how to read it.
Ali: We want a large cross-section of KL residents to take part in the feedback process.
“For those who are unfamiliar or new to the process, it can be challenging,” he told StarMetro.
The KLLP2040 is a legally enshrined document to be used by the Kuala Lumpur mayor to control development planning in the city.
Together with Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (KLSP), these documents will dictate the city’s land usage policies, shaping its urban landscape, infrastructure expansion, environmental conservation efforts and socioeconomic advancements for the next 15 years.
The template, which is available on SKL’s Facebook page, spans 80 pages and encompasses the structural framework, policies and various pertinent aspects of the local plan.
“People can choose to submit SKL’s version as is, or copy and paste the sections that they are interested in.
“We want a large cross-section of KL-ites to take part in the process, voice their opinions and contribute to the planning process effectively.
“Hopefully, this will encourage them to want to take part and the template is our contribution to the process,” Ali added.
He reiterated the coalition’s request for Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for more time, preferably until June 1, to give the public more time to study the plan and provide feedback.
The current deadline for submission is April 15, following an extension earlier.
He said the review period coincided with Chinese New Year, annual school holidays as well as Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Previously, SKL had carried out workshops on the draft KLLP2040.
“We had over 200 participants from all over Kuala Lumpur attend our briefings to study the plan.
“We believe that with more time we will be able to get more residents to put in their objections or suggestions.”
The draft plan is available for viewing at Menara DBKL 1 (Jalan Raja Laut) and Menara DBKL 3 (Jalan Raja Abdullah).
