Sarina Wiegman names England squad for crunch Women's Euro 2025 qualifiers
England will be without Lauren James, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Kayla Rendell for their crunch Euro 2025 qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.
Mary Earps and Niamh Charles have been called into Sarina Wiegman's 25-player Lionesses squad for the upcoming double-header, with both players set to continue their rehab to full fitness within the England set-up.
The reigning European champions sit third in Group A3 with seven points, behind second-placed Sweden on goal difference with France leading the way on nine points.
England earned a valuable victory over France to boost their qualification hopes having slumped to a disappointing defeat to the group leaders at St James' Park three days earlier in June.
Automatic qualification now hinges on the upcoming double-header against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden. England can still finish in top spot, albeit it is out of their hands. However, securing second place is still enough to qualify for Euro 2025 outright and avoid the playoffs.
Eileen Gleeson's Ireland cannot qualify automatically after losing all four of their Group A3 matches and instead will enter the play-offs, though they will be hoping to secure their first point of the campaign with a strong performance against Wiegman's side. Meanwhile, England laboured to a draw against Sweden in their first contest against Peter Gerhardsson's side.
England will need to get the better of both sides without Chelsea's James, Arsenal defender Wubben-Moy and Southampton goalkeeper Rendell, who are all remaining with their respective clubs to continue their returns from injury.
Meanwhile, Earps' fitness remains to be seen. The ex-Manchester United goalkeeper limped off in tears during England's defeat to France last month and was later spotted on crutches.

Wiegman has given Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse her first call-up, with the 29-year-old set to join her teammates after completing club commitments on 8 July.
Georgia Stanway will also remain with Bayern Munich, who have already started their 2024-25 pre-season preparation, and will link up with the squad in England on Monday week.
