Halifax-area family upset family doctor closing practice just 8 months after opening
Len and Lynn Creighton say they are in disbelief after receiving a letter from their family doctor saying she would be closing her practice in Windsor on August 1st, less than a year after it opened. You have to start debating if it’s time to move to another province, you know. Have you considered that? It’s something that I think that we would if once we retire because I don’t think the senior care is definitely here that needs to be for an aging populace, the letter said. There is currently no one to replace the Creighton’s doctor and they were recommended to go back on the need of family practice registry, something they say is all too familiar. After being on the list for three years prior to being accepted to this clinic, unfortunately for us, we’re again after waiting several years. Before the list and several years after the list still waiting again for another physician. The Creightons say they are concerned as both are diabetic. Lens mother who has stage 4 cancer also doesn’t have a family doctor. This is the reward of retirement. This is the reward of of growing old in this province. I I can’t accept that. It just doesn’t seem like there’s any solutions. It just seems like there’s band aids that are being applied to you know major issues. The province telling Global News there is ongoing work to add new primary care locations in the Windsor area. Also pointing to pharmacy primary care clinics and a diabetes center. The health department saying a registrant cannot be reversed to an open status on the registry with their original request date if it has been longer than six months since they’ve been placed. It’s just very frustrating. Like I said, like worried. It’s like with medical conditions, like what are we going to do? The Creighton say they’re worried about starting at the bottom of the list once again. But hope the wait isn’t nearly as long. Amber Friday Global News Halifax.
