Bills 'Haven't Changed That Much' After Offseason Dealings

The Buffalo Bills' offseason has been one of significant roster change. Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis headlined the offensive departures, while several key defensive veterans, including Jordan Poyer and Tre'Davious White, also left.

Those departures alone would have one thinking that the Bills in 2024, on paper, won't be as good as the 2023 version that won their division and a playoff game, right?

Well, NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal thinks that many are misunderstanding exactly what has gone down in Buffalo this offseason, stating that the starting roster hasn't changed as much as many believe.

“People are misunderstanding what happened in Buffalo this offseason,” Rosenthal said on NFL GameDay View. “Everyone’s talking about what they lost, what about what they kept? Josh Allen, how about the continuity on the rest of the roster, 19 of 22 players that I project to start this year for them were on the roster [last year]. They actually haven’t changed that much. Stefon Diggs, they will miss him, but I think it’s a committee approach, a really good offense line, we know Sean McDermott can get it done defensively.”

Is Rosenthal right?

The Bills lost Diggs and Davis, arguably two of their best offensive weapons. This creates two big holes that several receivers, including rookie Keon Coleman, will have to fill.

Defensively, Poyer started 16 games last season, so his production will need to be replaced, while White only managed four games in 2023, so he likely isn't considered a big loss.

Still, there has been change to the Bills roster, but as Rosenthal states, not to the starting lineup.

Just how Buffalo navigates its season, especially on offense, without Diggs and Davis, will make for interesting viewing. Allen often gets into trouble when putting on the Superman cape, and without his two best pass catchers of 2023, he will need to trust his other, lesser-known receivers to get the job done.

It worked for Patrick Mahomes last season; could it work for Allen and the Bills in 2024?
