Harrison Butker's 57-yard field goal breaks the record for the longest in Super Bowl history... less than 2 hours after San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody set the same record earlier in the game!

Moody knocked through a 55-yard field goal to break the old record in the '90s But in the very next quarter, Butker knocked through a kick two yards longer DailyMail.com provides all the latest international sports news

Just after San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody set a Super Bowl record for the longest made field goal in the game’s history, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker broke that new mark.

Moody’s 55-yard attempt put the Niners on the board first as it sailed well through the uprights at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in the second quarter.

But in the third quarter of the game, Butker was able to knock through an attempt from 57-yards out, breaking the record Moody just set.

The previous record was held by Buffalo Bills kicker Steve Christie, who knocked through a 54-yarder to tie Super Bowl XXVIII at 3-3.

Unfortunately for the Bills, they could not win that game – falling to the Dallas Cowboys 30-13 in Buffalo’s fourth straight Super Bowl loss.

Butker’s kick is significant, but it comes up just a yard short of the playoff record for a field goal kick.

Currently, two kicks share the record length of 58-yards. The first came back in 1991 from Miami Dolphins kicker Pete Stoyanovich with the other coming from Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano in 2018.

It’s also plenty far away from the longest field goal ever made – a record currently held by Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.

He knocked through a game-winning attempt in 2021 against the Detroit Lions from an improbable 66-yards out.
