2025 Chevrolet Suburban facelift previews Australia-bound GMC Yukon

Updated versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUVs have surfaced in the US sporting revised exterior styling, and a new interior with larger screens and updated technology.

Externally the main changes can be seen up front, where there’s a new lighting setup featuring a thin set of LED driving lights up top, underneath which are C-shaped signature lights that tie the Tahoe and Suburban to rest of the Chevrolet range.

The main and high beam units have been relocated, and are now hidden in the crook of the C-shaped running lights. High-end trim lines have animated turn signals and walk-away lighting.

Accompanying the updated lights are revised grille designs, and reshaped bumpers. At the rear, changes seem to be limited to new graphics for the tail-lights. There are also two new paint options on the menu: Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic.

Much more significant changes have been wrought to the interior, where the dashboard has been completely redrawn. It now comes standard with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, and an 11.0-inch instrumentation display.

The 17.7-inch infotainment screen looks to be same as the one used in the Blazer EV and Equinox EV, both of which are powered by the Android Automotive operating system, but don’t feature support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring.

Earlier this year, GM made waves when it confirmed its EV range would eschew smartphone mirroring support in favour of apps downloaded from the Google Play app store. Chevrolet has yet to confirm if the update Tahoe/Suburban and other combustion-powered models will follow the same policy.

The Tahoe/Suburban range will again be offered in the US with choice of two naturally aspirated V8 engines: a 265kW/519Nm 5.3-litre, and a 313kW/623Nm 6.2-litre.

A 3.0-litre straight-six turbo-diesel making 227kW and 671Nm is also available. All engine options are fitted with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Tahoe and Suburban utilises the same body-on-frame architecture as the Silverado pickup truck. While the locally remanufactured Silverado has seen great success Down Under, GM has not officially imported the Suburban since the eighth-generation model was sold here at the end of 1990s as a Holden.

Last month, GM confirmed it will bring the GMC Yukon to Australia from 2025. The Yukon is very closely related to the Tahoe and Suburban, and per the Chevrolet twins is offered in both short- and (XL) long-wheelbase guises.

Like the Silverado, the Yukon will be converted to right-hand drive in Melbourne.

While the first few generations of the Yukon were essentially Chevrolet Tahoes/Suburbans with new badges, GM has been upping the level of differentiation between the two models with recent iterations.

With the current fifth-generation model, the Yukon has a unique front end treatment, including different headlight, grille, bumper, bonnet, and front fender treatments, as well as redesigned tail lights and a slightly altered tailgate.

Most Yukon and Tahoe/Suburban models have the same interior with minor tweaks, but the upscale Yukon Denali trim is differentiated by a unique dashboard. It’s not known if this setup will continue with the facelifted model.
