Avondhu U21 A, B & C hurling championship action this weekend
This Friday evening there are two games in the Hibernian Hotel Under 21 A HC.
Fermoy face champions 'Shandrum in Castletownroche. 'Shandrum are the form team in this competition. They have key players in Johnny Murphy, Christopher Dunne, Eoin O'Mahony, Bill Collins, Stephen Minihane, Bobby Carroll, Kieran Murphy, Paddy Twohill, Turlough O'Neill and the Troy brothers Robert and Rory. Fermoy will be looking to Shane Coughlan, James O'Brien, Fionn Lardner, Brendan Daly and Darragh O'Brien. The winner will face Charleville.
The second game that evening the A grade is Mallow v Liscarroll / Churchtown Gaels Mallow have not fared well in this competition in recent years. They have a well balanced team and will look to Mark Tobin, Simon Lenighan, Bill Kingston, John Murphy, Billy Murphy and Mark Kelleher for leadership.
Liscarroll / Churchtown Gaels who won the Under 21 CHC title in 2022 followed up last year with a win over Clyda Rovers in the Under 21 B HC final after extra-time.
The Gaels still have a very well balanced side. Key players are Seamie O'Callaghan, Kiernan Daly, Oier O'Callaghan, Seán Killeen, Josh Quinn and Seán Delee.
Also on Friday evening there is a Transeuro Under 21 CHC game between Doneraile and St Kevins. Both of these sides are evenly matched. Doneraile will be looking to Jack O'Shea, Odhran Ward, Dean Reilly, Ryan Carlton, Seán Williamson and Ben Buckley.
Most of these players have played with their Junior B side earlier this year. St Kevin's the Ballyclough-Milford combination are also well balanced. Top players in their ranks are David Ludgate, John O'Flynn, Stephen O'Flynn. Colin Moynihan and Ben Geary.
The winner will face Kildorrery. On Sunday Clyda Rovers meet Killavullen in Doneraile. With Ballygiblin playing St Dominic's in Araglin. Clyda Rovers may have to lineout without their key county player Ben Nyhan.
Others in their squad include Kevin Graham, Patrick Ryan Cian Walsh, Cormac O'Reilly and Sean O'Sullivan. Killavullen are currently in the Division 1 HL final.
They have a number of Under 21s including Charlie Cremin, Jamie Magner, Eoin Magner, Seán Bartley, Sean Palmer, Kian Lane, Colm O'Mahony and Conor Griffin.
The winner of Clyda Rovers v Killavullen will meet Ballygiblin or St Dominic's in the semi final with Kilworth meeting Ballyhea in the second semi final. Ballygiblin will look to Eoin Flynn, Adam Barry, Conor Walsh, Eoghan Geary and Seán O'Doherty. Key players in the St Dominic's side are Darragh O'Brien, Marc Moloney, Shane Looney, Jake Buckley, Corey Buckley and Jamie Fogarty.
On Tuesday, July 2 Killavullen meet Liscarroll / Churchtown Gaels in the Cavanagh's Fermoy Division 1 FL final at Ballyclough. Both sides are evenly matched.
Killavullen are the reigning JAFC winners and will be all out to complete the double. Gaels will be very hard to beat.
