12 Elite Russian Marines Killed While Cooking on Open Fire, Triggering Grenade Launcher Explosion

An explosion at the Kuzminsky military training ground in the Rostov region of Russia left 12 elite soldiers from Vladimir Putin’s 155th Separate Guards Marine Brigade dead.

Knewz.com has learned that the marines were engaged in a cookout using an open fire when a live unit of ammunition exploded.

The incident was reported to have taken place on November 3 but was swept under the rug.

It was caught on video footage depicting a massive explosion that was punctuated with a deafening boom and followed by a plume of smoke rising into the sky.

Initial reports reveal that an RPG-7 grenade launcher shell caught fire during the lunchtime cookout.

A journalist from Rostov-on-Don news portal 161.RU reported: “About 20 people from [the Marine brigade] lit a fire during their lunch break next to the ammunition blocks. The RPG-7 grenade launcher shell rolled into the fire and exploded.”

The blast claimed the lives of eight marines instantaneously and four others were rushed to hospital where they too succumbed to their injuries.

The marines involved in this incident hailed from the city of Vladivostok in Russia’s far east and were reportedly slated for deployment in Ukraine as part of Putin’s ongoing “special military operation.”

According to 161.RU, a serviceman from the base gave an account of what had happened, but it has since been retracted pending the verification of details.

The local news agency reports that the incident has been confirmed by three sources within government organizations and that the blast has been deemed an accident resulting from a suspected breach of safety protocols.

There has been no official response from the Russian defense ministry and none of the dead have thus far been named.

According to The Daily Mail, a criminal investigation has been launched and as a testimony to the gravity of the incident, Russia’s South Pacific Fleet commander, Admiral Viktor Liina, visited the base.

The commander is reported to have made the trip in search of accountability for the fatal blunder.

Faux pas emanating from within the ranks of the Russian military is an occurrence that is all too common, and they often occur on the battlefield where they are a lot more conspicuous and harder to hide.

One of the most recent odiums to reach the ears of Western media is the rampant drug abuse among Putin’s troops.

Knewz.com reported previously:

“Russian soldiers stationed in occupied Ukraine are reportedly using hallucinogenic drugs in an attempt to alleviate the boredom and anxiety of frontline life.

” […] This claim comes from a soldier who also revealed that narcotics are alarmingly accessible and regularly used to combat the monotony of waiting for battle.”

In that context, Putin’s forces have been suffering numerous losses in their attempts to gain ground.

Russia’s battlefront embarrassments have plagued Putin’s efforts in Ukraine from the beginning.

The Russian autocrat was forced to break cover and address issues on the battlefront.

“It is necessary to correct all mistakes and prevent them from happening in the future,” Putin told his permanent security council.

“If a mistake is made, it must be corrected, those who were called up without a proper reason should be returned home,” he said, according to U.S. News & World Report.

It is one year later and the trend prevails.
