Bruce Brown returns as Indiana Pacers face Denver Nuggets
NEW DELHI: In a Sunday matinee matchup, the Denver Nuggets are set to host the Indiana Pacers, marking Bruce Brown’s return to Denver since joining the Pacers in the offseason. Brown, an unrestricted free agent, played a crucial role in the Nuggets’ NBA title win in June. However, due to salary cap constraints, Brown signed a two-year, $44 million deal with the Indiana Pacers.
During his one season in Denver, Brown averaged 11.5 points, showcasing his versatility and defensive prowess. His ability to guard multiple positions was a key factor in the Nuggets’ success. Now, with the Pacers, Brown has continued to make an impact, especially in the absence of star guard Tyrese Haliburton, who is sidelined with a left hamstring strain.
Despite the challenge of missing a key player, the Pacers have managed to secure three consecutive victories, with the last two coming without Haliburton. Currently boasting a 9-1 record in their last 10 games, the Pacers are on a six-game road trip, facing Western Conference opponents.
Indiana’s success without Haliburton has been attributed to a balanced scoring approach, with eight players scoring in double figures in their recent 126-108 win against the Atlanta Hawks. T.J. McConnell played a crucial role off the bench, contributing 14 assists.
As Bruce Brown returns to Denver, he brings valuable insights into the Nuggets’ playing style. However, containing Nikola Jokic poses a significant challenge for any team. Jokic, known for his scoring and playmaking abilities, recently achieved his 12th triple-double of the season in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Following a lackluster performance against Utah, the Nuggets bounced back with a 125-113 win over the Pelicans. Coach Michael Malone expressed satisfaction with the team’s improved performance, emphasizing a return to the brand of basketball expected from the Denver Nuggets.
Despite occasional setbacks, Denver has won 10 of its last 13 games. Notably, Jokic has been exceptionally efficient, shooting at an impressive 79.3 percent from the field over the last eight games. His playmaking ability was on display with a memorable over-the-head, no-look alley-oop to Aaron Gordon in the recent win.
