K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty announce comeback with five members in September
SEOUL – K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty are returning as a quintet with four new members joining original member Keena in September.
“We’ve been holding auditions in search of new members for the group’s new start. We finalised four new members in April,” Fifty Fifty’s agency, Attrakt, announced in a press release on June 14.
Fifty Fifty’s comeback was initially scheduled for June.
“We know that many people have been waiting for their comeback, but we needed more time for the sake of album quality and global marketing,” the agency said.
The five-member group will introduce a single that accentuates their unique musical identity before their official comeback.
Attrakt held auditions in South-east Asia in partnership with Singapore company Evergreen Group Holdings earlier this year to find new female members. About 120 young women turned up for a preliminary audition held in Singapore in February.
Auditions were also held in South Korea and Japan.
Fifty Fifty debuted as a group of four – comprising Keena, Aran, Sio and Saena – in November 2022 with their debut EP The Fifty. Their hit single, Cupid, released in February 2023, landed at No. 100 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart 130 days after their debut.
The rookies climbed up to No. 17 and remained on the chart for 25 consecutive weeks, becoming the first K-pop girl group to achieve the feat.
Attrakt terminated its exclusive contracts with Aran, Sio and Saena in October 2023 following a legal dispute over the contracts. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
