'Arrogance remains': Congress chief Kharge responds to PM Modi's pre-Parliament session address

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address ahead of the Parliament session and accused him of being arrogant despite "moral and political defeat".

In a post on X, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed disappointment and said that the Prime Minister failed to address crucial issues such as the NEET paper leak, corruption in recruitment examinations, the recent train accident in West Bengal, and the ongoing violence in Manipur in his pre-session address.

"He will show some sympathy towards the youth regarding the paper leak in NEET and other recruitment examinations, but he did not take any responsibility for the massive rigging and corruption of his government," Kharge said.

In response to the Prime Minister's remarks about the Emergency, Kharge questioned the government's fixation on the 50-year-old event while ignoring the "Undeclared Emergency" of the past decade.

"You are reminding us of the 50-year-old Emergency, but have forgotten the last 10 years of Undeclared Emergency, which was ended by the people. People have given their mandate against Modi ji. Despite this, if he has become the Prime Minister, then he should work," he said.

"The opposition and INDIA Janbandhan want Consensus in Parliament, we will keep raising the voice of the people in the House, on the streets and before everyone," Kharge asserted, highlighting the opposition's commitment to representing the people's concerns.

During his customary remarks, PM Modi called for a responsible opposition, stating that people desire substance, debate, and diligence in Parliament, not slogans, disturbance, or disruption.

He expressed hope that the opposition would fulfill its role and maintain the decorum of democracy while taking a veiled jab at the Congress party by referring to the Emergency as a black spot on India's parliamentary history.
