Kliff Kingsbury Key to 'Quick Turnaround' For Commanders?
There have been many moving parts for the Washington Commanders this offseason, both player-wise and personnel-wise. One such move was Kliff Kingsbury taking over from Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator.
With Kingsbury now tied to rookie Jayden Daniels as Washington's new regime prepares for its maiden voyage in 2024, Kliff will be watched closely to see what system and scheme he develops to utilize Daniels' talents.
As such, CBS Sports thinks that if Kingsbury can put Daniels in a position to succeed, then the franchise's ability to turn its fortunes around could be quicker than initially hoped.
"A lot rests on the shoulders of new offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury," CBS Sports writes. "If he can put Daniels in a position to succeed, then Washington may be starting down a quick turnaround. The hiring of head coach Dan Quinn was not splashy, but it should at least bring a clear vision and stability to the organization. Free agency was spent filling holes with experienced, relatively inexpensive players familiar with Quinn's coaching style. By building out that depth, they allowed themselves to be more flexible in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jayden Daniels was the crown jewel, but they made quality additions on the defensive side of the ball with tackle Johnny Newton, cornerback Mike Sainristil and others."
Kliff Kingsbury Key to 'Quick Turnaround' For Commanders?
After a poor 2023 season that yielded just four wins, the Commanders hope that Daniels and Kingsbury will put the franchise in far better shape than it was last season.
Additionally, the defense was one of the worst in football, so more often than not, Washington needed to be in a shootout in order to win (10 times gave up 30+ points).
With the defensive acquisitions, the unit, which is now led by Joe Whitt Jr., will be far better and could also help the offense.
For Kingsbury, there is a bit of pressure on his shoulders to make something of this Commanders' offense that has all the tools to not only be competitive in the league but potentially, as some have stated, be a near-playoff team.
The Commanders have had a good offseason with hope and excitement surrounding the fanbase; now it's time to produce it on the field. It starts at training camp, with Daniels looking to master Kingsbury's system so he can hit the ground running come Week 1.
