Meru - Seven people have been confirmed dead following a horrible accident at Timau town along the Meru-Nyanyuki Highway.
Buuri sub-county police commander Laura Imbacha confirmed the Saturday, June 22, accident, saying several people sustained serious injuries.
Imbacha disclosed that the accident occurred at about 6.30pm after a truck carrying building stones lost control before ramming into pedestrians.
The fatal accident also involved a motorcycle, and the rider died on the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, some pedestrians died after being hit by the building blocks.
"When the driver lost control of the truck, the vehicle swerved and hit the pedestrians before landing in a ditch. Building blocks flew into the air and hit some pedestrians, who died on the spot
We have started investigations into the incident, and more details about the injured and the identity of the dead will be released after the relatives are informed," Imbacha said.
Good samaritans rushed those injured to medical facilities in Timau and Nyanyuki towns.
