Sjogren's syndrome is an immune system disorder where the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth are usually affected first and can also damage other parts of your body. If left untreated, you will have dryness in the eyes, mouth, throat, joint pain, swelling and stiffness, swollen salivary glands, dry skin, rashes, vaginal dryness, persistent dry cough, fatigue and problems with the thyroid, kidneys, liver and lungs.

Abnormal liver or kidney function, encephalopathy, aseptic meningitis, vision problems, dental cavities, etc. are caused if Sjogren's syndrome is left untreated. Some people with Sjogren's syndrome develop lymph node cancer.
