What happened at Stonehenge?
Yeah, well, English Heritage, which manages Stonehenge, is now assessing the damage. But you can see behind me here what has been left after those two Truss Stop Oil protesters got access to the site just after 12 noon. I'll step out of the way. So you can see they approached the monoliths here, these three on the side of Stonehenge here with extinguishers which contained orange powder paint. And in video footage filmed by Truss Stop Oil, we could hear members of the public shouting, no, a few of them approached the protesters before one of them then sat down on the grass after they had covered, as I say, three of the stones that you can see here in this orange paint. It has got condemnation already from the highest source. The Prime Minister describing this as a disgraceful act of vandalism. Now, as you say, Wiltshire Police have arrested two people following this incident and there are a number of police officers on site here. Still, it's not closed to the public. As I speak to you here. There are a good several 100 tourists enjoying Stonehenge. Here of course is a busy time as we enter the summer season and of course the day before summer solstice when the organisers here are expecting around 10,000 people to come and mark that point. That is tomorrow evening. So this comes the day before. Let me just bring you a bit more about what the Prime Minister said. He said it's a disgraceful act of vandalism to one of EU KS world's oldest and most important monuments. Just Just Stop Oil should be ashamed of themselves. We've got a statement from Just Stop Oil. They said this action was to demand that the incoming UK government should agree a plan. It's all about, of course, ending fossil fuel fuels should agree a plan with other governments to end the extraction and burning of oil, gas and coal by 20-30. It wasn't violent when it happened, as I say. A couple of people in video footage released by the protest group approached those two protesters and tried to remove them, pull them back before one of them stood down. Just Stop Oil actually say that one of those they've named to one of those is a Miss Lynch, said to be a student from Oxford. Another one, a man we understand in his 70s from Birmingham, Those we understand are the two people behind this. It's drawing perhaps more interest and intrigue the normal from the crowds here at Stonehenge following this protest. But condemnation widely of what's been done here just by Oil saying this is all part of their campaign and about raising awareness of course, during the general election about stopping fossil fuels. But you can see here the damage caused the three of them monoliteer at Stonehenge just up all keen to stress as well that this is a powder paint. It should in their words come come off in the rain. But English Heritage are now carrying out an assessment here of the damage and, and exactly how easy it will be to to get off. They say that this is an extremely upsetting incident. Our creators are investigating the extent of the damage. Stonehenge remains open to the public. All right.
