Netherlands vs. France prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Euro 2024 group match

One of the biggest matchups of the Euro 2024 group stage will take place Friday, June 21, in Leipzig as second-ranked France match up against seventh-ranked Netherlands in Group D play.

The heavyweight matchup will be missing its biggest star, however, as Kylian Mbappe reportedly will not take part in the game because of a broken nose suffered late in France's opening win over Austria. It's believed that Mbappe will return at some point this tournament, possibly even in their group finale against Poland, but he will be held out of this match out of an abundance of caution.

It's also lost its luster a bit since both teams are expected to advance from the group regardless of the result, as they both won their opening matches against Poland and Austria and will each be heavily favored to emerge victorious from their upcoming finales as well.

Still, anytime two giants clash in a competitive environment, there is always an air about the game as fans look for reasons to believe their side can push deep into the competition with future games against top opponents likely.

Netherlands vs. France prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: France (+125)
  • Score prediction: Netherlands 1-2 France

Didier Deschamps is a top international manager for a reason — he knows that it doesn't have to look pretty every time, the results are what matter. He loves to keep things simple and often doesn't unleash his talented attacking unit unless absolutely necessary.

The Dutch will surely push France to defend in stretches, but Les Bleus will be comfortable doing so. N'Golo Kante passed the test brilliantly in his return from exile against Austria, and will play a big role in shutting down the Netherlands buildup, as the Dutch love to play on the counter, which Kante is adept at blowing up.

France will find themselves under pressure, especially down the stretch, but it's an environment they've been in before.

Netherlands vs. France best bet

  • Pick: Under 8.5 total corners
  • Odds: +100 (BetMGM)

Don't be drawn on overs for goals or shots in this match. France have routinely played extremely cautiously early in major tournaments under Didier Deschamps, while the Dutch are built on attacking efficiency instead of volume.

The value on the total match under is frustratingly paltry, with the market sadly not being drawn by the brand names involved. Instead, we turn to corners, which are often dictated by game flow. Neither of these sides rack up corners at a furious rate, instead choosing to create chances from open play either on the counter or in the half-court.

France collected only two corners against Austria in their Euro opener, and while they conceded six, that came against an opponent specifically looking for set-piece opportunities. The Dutch grabbed six corners against Poland, but that came on 66 percent possession, which they can't count on in this match. The last time these two teams clashed, they combined for just five corners, and they've gone under this total in three of the last four meetings.

Netherlands vs. France prop bet

  • Pick: Marcus Thuram anytime goal scorer
  • Odds: +270 (BetMGM)

Sure, Marcus Thuram has just two international goals in 20 caps, but he's overdue for a goal, and what better time to back him at such enticing odds than in a game where he'll be looking to make up for an injured Kylian Mbappe?

The Inter man has struggled with finishing throughout his career for both club and country, but he's a massive part of this France attack and will be even more central in Mbappe's absence. In Thuram's his four international starts since last scoring against Gibraltar, he's racked up 10 total shots to no return, including five in the opener against Austria.

Without Mbappe, he'll be a main player up front and at nearly 3/1 odds presents exceptional value.
