All Blacks handed significant boost as ‘world-class athlete’ inks new long-term deal

The Crusaders have announced that prolific speedster Sevu Reece has recommitted to the Christchurch-based outfit and New Zealand Rugby after agreeing terms on a contract extension.
The 23-Test All Black has put pen to paper on a new deal that will take him through to 2026 which means the Crusaders will retain the services of one of New Zealand’s most potent attackers.
Crusaders’ leading try-scorer
The Fijian-born wing made his debut for the Crusaders against the Chiefs in 2019 and is the perennial Super Rugby champions’ leading try-scorer, having scored 58 tries in 72 appearances for them.
Although the Crusaders have struggled in 2024, Reece was in fine form again during their Super Rugby Pacific campaign as he is currently the joint-top leading try-scorer – with Hoskins Sotutu – after touching down 12 times.
“I’m very pleased to stick with the Crusaders until 2026,” he said. “This club is special to me, and so much more than just a rugby team – it’s a family. I can’t wait to pull the jersey on again next season and prove to everyone what we can do.”
The 27-year-old has also decided to change his provincial allegiance in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship (NPC) from Tasman to Southland.

“I’m excited to represent Southland and spend more time down there. My partner Kiri and her family are from the area, and making the provincial shift south definitely means more chances to spend time with them,” said Reece.
“I’m also really looking forward to spending time with the passionate fans that I know we have across the Southland region.”
Crusaders boss delighted
Meanwhile, Crusaders head coach Rob Penney said his franchise are delighted that the All Blacks star is set to further his career with them for the next three seasons.
“Sevu is a world-class athlete who can create magic from anywhere on the paddock,” Penney said.
“He’s earnt his spot as our all-time top try-scorer and we can’t wait to see what he achieves in 2025.”
