Meet the new cabinet for the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has announced his new cabinet for the province’s government.
The new members of the executive council were announced after Ntuli’s swearing-in ceremony at the Woodburn Rugby Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday, 18 June.
MEET THE NEW KWAZULU-NATAL CABINET
As previously reported, no political party achieved an outright majority (50% +1) in the 29 May polls, this meant that political parties have to form a coalition in order to govern the province.
The IFP which received the second highest votes in the province formed a government of provincial unity with the Democratic Alliance (DA), the National Freedom Party (NFP) and the African National Congress (ANC).
Here are the members of the executive council:
- Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs – Reverend Musa Keith Zondi
- Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) – Reverend Thulasizwe Dominic Buthelezi
- Health – Nomagugu Simelane
- Social Development – Mbali Cynthia Chinga
- Public Works and Infrastructure – Hon. Mr Lukas Marthinus Meyer
- Finance – Hon. Mr Francoise Adrianus Rodgers
- Agriculture and Rural Development – Thembeni Petty kaMadlopha-Mthethwa
- Transport and Human Settlements – Siboniso Amstrong Duma
- Education – Siphosihle Emmanuel Hlomuka
- Sport, Arts and Culture – Mntomuhle Khawula
PREMIER READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING
During his address on Tuesday, Ntuli said the government of provincial unity stands on the cusp of a new beginning.
“Collectively, we will deliver on the hope and revival the people of this Province so desperately require. Today, we enter a pivotal new period or rebuilding our province that will require all of us to have clear minds, while displaying visionary and committed leadership.
“I wish to assure you that we will always keep our promise that we are your servants, not your bosses. Please trust us. I wish to assure you that we will always keep our promise that we are your servants, not your bosses. Please trust us,” he said.
