Perth Royal Art Prize: WA-based landscape artists in the running for $20k cash prize
WA’s top landscape artists are in the running for a $20,000 prize ahead of a prestigious art competition at Claremont’s Wilkinson Gallery.
A total of 60 artists spanning from Broome to Bicton have been shortlisted for the Perth Royal Art Prize which is said to highlight the exceptional talent of landscape artists across the State.
Amongst the shortlisted is 80-year-old artist Michael Vincent Murphy, who shared his excitement ahead of the competition.

“It’s always exciting to be shortlisted for a competition that can help your artwork get seen by more people,” he said.
Mr Murphy, who is based in Mandurah, explains his art style as a mix of surrealism and realism that takes on a unique perspective of the Australian landscape.
Speaking ahead of the competition, RASWA chief executive Robyn Sermon said audiences can expect a “remarkable array of high-calibre artwork”.
“The diversity of perspectives on presented through this competition enriches our cultural tapestry and offers a fabulous reflection of our state’s artistic talent,” she said.
“The selection panel were impressed by the artworks submitted and I look forward to presenting an outstanding exhibition of the finalists’ works,” Perth Royal Art Prize curator Sandra Murray added.
The week-long exhibition opens at the Wilkinson Gallery at the Claremont Showground on July 13, one day after a special event to declare the winners.
