Shared paths funded by City of Joondalup and Department of Transport making it easier to get around on bikes
More shared paths have been opened in the City of Joondalup in partnership with the Department of Transport, making it easier for people to travel via bicycle or walking.
The completed projects have been co-funded by the city and the Department’s WA Bicycle Network Grants Program.
This includes the Eddystone Avenue Shared Path in Craigie, in which a 1.2m wide footpath was replaced by a new 2.5m wide red asphalt path 1.8km long connecting Whitfords Avenue and Craigie Drive.

The Whitfords Avenue (West) Shared Path replaced 900m of concrete path with a 3m-wide red asphalt shared path on the southern side of Whitfords Avenue, providing a connection to Whitfords station.
The upgrades build on several major projects completed in recent years designed to improve walking and riding access to train stations within the city.
The projects include wayfinding signage advising path users of travel times to various locations along the route.
An official opening was held at the Eddystone Avenue Shared Path with students from Craigie Heights Primary School, who have successfully implemented the Department’s Your Move program.
Your Move encourages students to ride, scoot or walk to school to reduce congestion around the school, promote physical and mental health, interact with their neighbourhood and support sustainability.

Craigie Heights Primary School students recently completed three bike education sessions delivered to the year 5 and 6 classes as part of successfully obtaining funding through the Your Move Connecting Schools program.
Padbury Catholic Primary School and Hillarys Primary School are within 400m of the Hepburn Avenue shared path and the western end of the path connects to Hillarys Boat Harbour and the Coastal Shared Path.
Padbury Catholic Primary School has also recently registered for the Your Move program.
Joondalup mayor Albert Jacob said the city was delighted to work with the Department of Transport on projects that enhance connectivity and provide healthier and more sustainable communities.
“The City of Joondalup recognises there has been a significant shift in the community’s attitude to bike use from a form of recreation to an alternative mode of transport,” Mr Jacob said.
“The city’s bike plan advocates for initiatives that celebrate and encourage bike riding and we are making significant progress towards providing a safe cycling network that connects residents with public transport and key activity and attraction areas.
“This is an essential component of a well-planned, modern city and I thank the State Government for assisting in providing funding for the necessary and much-needed cycling infrastructure that our city and the northern suburbs as a whole requires.”
