New Sabah party PIS aims for inclusivity, and curbing 'recycled politicians'
KOTA KINABALU: A new Sabah political party pledges to help realise the dreams of Sabahans, aiming to have 12 vice presidents representing a broad cross-section of the state's people.
Parti Impian Sabah (PIS) pro tem president Michel Alok said these vice presidents would represent the larger ethnic groups and communities in the state including the Kadazandusun, Murut, Rungus, Bajau and Suluk.
It would also limit the tenure of its committee members, including the president, to two terms, "thereby discouraging recycled politicians," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 18).
The former Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) member said PIS would also work towards the return of state rights under the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), fight corruption and strive to eradicate poverty.
“PIS stands resolute in advocating for transformative leadership and democratic governance, with a special emphasis on Sabah, Malaysia.
“PIS (will nurture) a cadre of clean leaders to revolutionise Sabah's political landscape. Our goal is to root out monopolies, corruption, power abuse, and authoritarianism.
Michel said the two-term limit would help bring about a leadership cohort that was constantly developing, and help eliminate corruption and abuse of power.
The party would also stress inclusivity and democratic governance through balanced decision-making, he added.
