Six dead, 5 hurt in raging Georgia house fire: 'It Was a Tough Morning'
An inferno broke out around 5 a.m. and covered about 50% of a single-family house on the 1300 block on Macedonia Road in Newnan, Georgia. Fire was coming out of the roof, according to Robby Flanagan, Coweta Fire chief.
Six people are dead and five others hospitalized after a raging house fire with flames shooting through the roof in Newnan, Georgia Monday morning, according to officials.
The inferno broke out around 5 a.m. and covered about 50% of a single-family house on the 1300 block on Macedonia Road in Newnan. Fire was coming out of the roof, according to Robby Flanagan, Coweta Fire chief.
"We were able to pull six victims out of the house," Flanagan said. "The six people we rescued are deceased. "It was a tough morning."
Coweta County Fire Rescue crews worked throughout the morning to extinguish the blaze.
When firefighter arrived on scene, five people were outside and six were inside the home.
Firefighters charged into the house to rescue them. The people who were outside were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition, according to Flanagan.
The victims' ages and names have not been released at this time.
Officials are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
"The Coweta County Sheriff's Office is deeply saddened by the news of the house fire that claimed the lives of several of our community members," the Coweta County Sheriff's Office said in a post on Facebook.
"Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. We ask that everyone please keep the victims and their loved ones in their thoughts and prayers."
