Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says an early election is unlikely given that Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has moved ahead of Anthony Albanese in the recent polls.

“I know in our budget coverage I spoke about the prospect of an early election – my understanding is clear it won’t be in September,” Mr Clennell said.
“I’m starting to now doubt it will be in November or December, and part of that’s cause these polls are pretty poor for the government.
“You’re not going to go there if you’re only going to win 69 or 70 seats.
“I think it’s starting to lean towards an election next year now.”
