Denmark Targets Russian Shadow Fleet

Denmark is exploring ways to limit the passage of old tankers transporting Russian oil through the Baltic Sea, according to a statement by the country's Foreign Minister on Monday.

This move could lead to a confrontation with Moscow.

The Danish straits serve as a key gateway to the Baltic Sea, through which Russia sends about a third of its seaborne oil exports. This accounts for approximately 1.5% of the global oil supply.

Any disruption in this route could increase oil prices and impact the Kremlin's finances.

Targeting the Shadow Fleet

Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen told Reuters that Denmark has convened a group of allied nations to evaluate measures aimed at the so-called shadow fleet of ships transporting Russian oil.

The shadow fleet refers to older tankers that continue to carry Russian oil despite international sanctions and restrictions.
