MLB Fans Rip J.D. Davis After Nightmare Yankees Debut
Recent Yankees acquisition JD Davis had a nightmarish debut for his new team on Tuesday against the Mets, and fans voiced their displeasure online.
In his first three at-bats, Davis went 0-for-3, striking out twice and grounding into an inning-ending double-play with runners on first and second in the top of the fifth inning.
New York (52-29) added Davis in a trade with the Oakland A's on June 23 after starters Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton were placed on the injured list.
In 39 games with the A's, the 2017 World Series champion with the Astros hit .236 with four home runs.
Yankees fans aren't shy about expressing their feelings. Earlier this year, for example, they showered outfielder Aaron Judge with boos after striking out four times in a 2-0 loss to the Rays while he was mired in a .179 start at the plate.
Davis will likely get the same treatment when he makes his home debut, but he got a taste of what's to come with Yankees fans' online comments.
"There’s a reason he was cut," curtly said one poster.
"Wow I’m shocked that their dumpster diving didn’t work," bluntly said another.
"Didn’t he come from the A’s? Should still be there," added one commenter.
"The D in his name stands for DFA," joked another, suggesting his initial stands for "Designated For Assignment."
