Chicago Sky Coach Takes Subtle Shot At WNBA Officiating After Loss To Fever
The Chicago Sky came into the 2024 WNBA season with a first-year head coach in Teresa Weatherspoon. Chicago is currently listed as the No. 5 team in the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-9 record.
Weatherspoon looked to have the team in line for a successful season, but a four-game losing streak raises questions about the roster's true talent. The Sky has some quality pieces on both ends of the floor, but there seems to be an outside issue that Weatherspoon recently pointed out.
"They played so hard down there. Sometimes the whistle just doesn't go your way," said Weatherspoon via Marquee Sky.
Chicago visited the Indiana Fever on Sunday, suffering a brutal 91-83 loss on the road. There were clear struggles on the defensive end, but the officiating may have been lopsided, according to Weatherspoon.

While the Sky's coach didn't offer it as an excuse for the loss, she believes the whistle affected the game's finale.
As Weatherspoon explained, Chicago fought hard. They went into enemy territory and played a battle against the Fever, but the Sky looked outnumbered. They played two rookies over 30 minutes, so the inexperience was visible later in the game.
The Sky will look to snap their losing streak as they embark on a four-game homestand, beginning Thursday against the Dallas Wings.
