European giants drop Greenwood for Sancho

Jadon Sancho, Man Utd

Juventus

have become the favourites to sign Jadon Sancho this summer, overtaking Borussia Dortmund in the process.

That is according to Football Insider, who report that the Bianconeri are considering dropping their interest in

Mason Greenwood

in order to pursue Sancho instead.

Juventus

are in the market for a new right winger this summer, as they have put Federico Chiesa up for sale and are considering selling Matias Soule, also.

The primary target, according to multiple sources in Italy, is Greenwood.

However, Football Insider explains how United’s asking price of over €50 million is deemed far too expensive by Juventus.

As a result they are now exploring another available Man Utd right winger in Sancho.

Sancho is available for sale having fallen out with Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag, and Juventus have more financial power than Borussia Dortmund, who would ideally like to sign the Englishman permanently.

Premier League summer transfers 2024: All the Done Deals

Sancho at Borussia Dortmund

Sancho joined

Dortmund

on loan during the January transfer market as he he returned to the club that he left in 2021.

The English winger rediscovered some of his best form for Dortmund, a far cry from the dismal performances he showed at Old Trafford.

Sancho was in particularly brilliant form during Dortmund’s 1-0 win over PSG in the Champions League semi final first leg.

That performance was key in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final, where they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid at Wembley.

Dortmund have publicly stated that they want to re-sign Sancho permanently, and this is also the desire of the player himself.

However, Sancho’s big salary and United’s demands for a big transfer fee make a deal complicated.

And that is why Juventus are now favourites, according to Football Insider.

Sancho initially joined Man Utd from Dortmund for €85 million in the summer of 2021.

But he has been a major disappointment at Old Trafford.

He has scored just 12 goals in 82 appearances for United and has regularly been a bench player during his time at the club.

Earlier last season, Sancho was frozen out of the squad at Man Utd.

It came after manager Erik ten Hag criticised Sancho publicly for his poor performances in training, which was followed by the winger essentially calling his manager a liar on social media.

Sancho was not called up again after this incident and was barred from training with the first team, as well as using their facilities and canteen.

Sancho was also deleted from the team’s WhatsApp group by Ten Hag.

United transfer listed him and then sent him on loan to Dortmund in January.
