Lakers' JJ Redick Hire Sparks Discussion About Becky Hammon
JJ Redick is the new head coach of one of the NBA's most popular franchises, the Los Angeles Lakers. The move has caught the ire of a handful of observers in the sports world.
Some view Redick as simply unproven, while others view him as unqualified.
Fox Sports analysts discussed the lack of experience Redick brings to the job. An FS1 graphic on the former three-point specialist's coaching history has made waves on social media.
Redick's coaching resume includes a volunteer stint as head coach of a fourth grade Brooklyn squad.
The inexperience prompted one social media account to compare the coverage of Redick to Las Vegas Aces head coach and former Spurs assistant Becky Hammon. The post read as follows.
"So much of the discourse surrounding Becky Hammon as a possible NBA head coach was that she didn't have enough experience after being an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs for eight seasons."
Lakers' JJ Redick Hire Sparks Discussion About Becky Hammon
Redick certainly doesn't have eight years as an NBA assistant to his credit, though he did play in the league for a long time. Still, the lack of experience in coaching players is suboptimal for the Lakers in the immediate future.
Perhaps there is some upside to the hire. Los Angeles forward LeBron James certainly seems to have a great deal of respect for Redick's basketball knowledge. Time will tell if that will result in the Lakers trusting Redick in big moments.
