The reveal trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard saw the debut of a new cast of companions, and though a fair few are familiar faces from Tevinter Nights, none among them is quite as famous or beloved as Scout Harding.

Lace Harding was initially introduced as a side character in Dragon Age: Inquisition, where she served as the lead scout for the organization. She provided information to the Inquisitor about each open world area in the game, but it was ultimately her charm and optimistic attitude that made her popular among fans. BioWare realized her growing popularity in the wake of the game's release, and as a result, the Trespasser DLC ended up featuring a bard song centered around Harding.

While dwarves in the Dragon Age universe cannot wield magic due to not having a connection with the Fade, Shaper Valta displays the ability to cast spells after connecting to a Titan during the events of The Descent in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Though the exact nature of Harding's powers is unknown, it's quite likely that they are tied to the Titans in some way. Another dwarf that was long suspected of having access to magic is Sandal, a savant who is most famous for providing enchantments to the Hero of Ferelden in Dragon Age: Origins. Scout Harding being both an archer and a magic wielder in Dragon Age: The Veilguard implies that BioWare is aiming to create a more flexible combat system. Instead of restricting players to Warriors, Rogues, and Mages, it's quite possible that all companions in The Veilguard will bring something unique to the table, and that the Rook will similarly be able to create their own hybrid class.

Fans will be able to see the opening moments of Dragon Age: The Veilguard during a gameplay presentation on June 11, 2024. The video will be fifteen minutes long, and will showcase BioWare's vision of a more action-oriented Dragon Age title. As opposed to having three companions, the Rook in The Veilguard will be joined by two teammates instead, hearkening back to the formula that Mass Effect perfected. While this decision has been controversial since the first gameplay details were leaked, players will be able to experience Dragon Age: The Veilguard on their own in Fall 2024.
