NBC Roasted for ‘Embarrassing’ U.S. Open Coverage Amidst Major Technical Difficulties
The third round of the 2024 U.S. Open has produced major changes to the top of the leaderboard at Pinehurst No. 2.
Three-under par through 12 holes this Saturday, LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau (-7 total) has opened up a two-stroke lead over four-time major champion Rory McIlroy (-5) and previous leader Ludvig Åberg (-5).
Unfortunately for those tuning into NBC's third-round coverage on Saturday, technical difficulties impacting nearly the entire broadcast appeared to become a universal experience for fans as the leaders took to the course for round three.
X (formerly Twitter) account @NoLayingUp was among the first to point out the network's major technical difficulties on Saturday.
"NBC promised us that they were dedicating all of their possible resources in their biggest events. This is their biggest event and they've managed to lose audio with the lead groups, and currently have no graphics/leaderboards. Unbelievable," NLU posted.
Golf fans have taken to social media in droves to share complaints about NBC's 'embarrassing' third-round coverage of the U.S. Open.
"nbc will provide flawless coverage of the Roast Beef Championship in November, but God forbid they get it right for the majors. Save us CBS, you're our only hope. #classicNBC #embarrassing," one X user wrote.
"What is up with the horrible tv coverage today? Camera ops that can’t control their apertures. Director can’t find a shot. Get it together NBC! Definitely not CBS quality," Bill said.
"Looks like NBC hired the production crew from the ABC / ESPN NBA Finals halftime show to produce its US Open coverage! @awfulannouncing," another fan posted.
We're hopeful NBC can fix its' broadcast problems before Sunday's final round.
