Former Penang MIC chairman Datuk T. Subbiah passes away at 92
GEORGE TOWN: Former Penang MIC chairman Datuk T. Subbiah has passed away at the age of 92.
The party veteran served the state government for more than a decade, including as a state executive councillor.
Subbiah served as the Bagan Dalam assemblyman for three terms from 1974 to 1986.
The state constituency was then discontinued in 1986 before being reintroduced in 2004.
He served as the Land Committee chairman in Penang under Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu.
Subbiah was the Penang MIC chairman from 1971 to 1990.
Penang MIC chairman Datuk J. Dhinagaran remembered him fondly for his contribution to the party.
"He was helpful to the party and Penang MIC in particular.
"We appreciate his contribution and send our thoughts and prayers to his family," he said.
Dhinagaran said he heard of Subbiah's passing on Friday (June 14).
"His funeral will be on Sunday (June 16) in Penang," he said.
